It is so tempting to choose the cheapest quote you get from a plumber in Sydney. Although at some point you have to ask yourself why are they the cheapest? What are they not considering, how do they approach their plumbing work & do they complete work that meets Australian Standards? When we visited this site we found a plumbing system that had not been installed legally or to code.
Why cheap plumbers can cost thousands in repairs down the track.

What was illegal with this plumbing installation in Sydney?
Nu-Trend provided this client with a free plumbing quotation about two years ago, unfortunately we weren’t chosen as the contractor to complete the installation. Although we were recently called out to the same location as the owner wanted to get plumbing repairs completed. Once we arrived on the site we could see why we lost the job to another plumbing contractor who had provided a cheaper quote.
These are all the items we discovered;
1. The plumbing was actually illegally set up and installed.
2. The electricals were also illegally set up and installed.
3. The core holes in the walls were left unpatched.
4. The hot water system wasn’t properly fixed to the wall & certainly not in a safe way to meet OH&S standards.
5. The electrical wasn’t run back to the main board.
6. There were no safety valves or draining points installed.
We had a choice – complete the plumbing repairs and leave or, let the owner know.
Our philosophy is to make sure that each property owner fully understands the situation they are dealing with & all the possible solutions. So we told the owner that from our perspective, the simple solution was to rip out the existing illegal plumbing installation and start again. This would mean they get it done the correct way with a high quality installation for their hot water system, piping and electricals. This would ensure they don’t have problems down the track.
In the present state the current installation presents a number of safety issues for anyone on the site and we wouldn’t even attempt to repair it given the work has been done so poorly. Any contractor that did decide to try and do remedial repairs would be taking shortcuts in our opinion.
So by choosing the cheaper option in the first instance, it will now cost the owner even more to have it redone compared to getting it done correctly the first time around two years ago.
