ONE
TEAM

You deal with Rick, start to finish

Nu-Trend has been renovating bathrooms across Sydney since 2009.

We handle the complete job — design, demolition, rubbish removal, subfloor preparation, waterproofing, tiling and final fit-off for houses, apartments, townhouses and units in every Sydney suburb.

You’ll deal with Rick Karagiannis, the licensed director who is on the tools at your job, not a salesperson on commission.

Every renovation comes with a fixed-price itemised quote within 24 hours and a 10-year workmanship guarantee written into your contract.

The bathroom you’ve been putting off for years, finally done beautifully, by one licensed team who did every step themselves, while you live in the house the whole time.

Why bathroom renovation quotes in Sydney vary by thousands

You’re not stalling because you don’t want a new bathroom. You’re stalling because everyone you’ve spoken to has a website, five stars and a signwritten ute but you have no way of telling who’s genuine.

Then the quotes arrive.

Same line items, wildly different numbers.

So you’re left guessing whether the expensive one is ripping you off, or the cheap one is leaving something out.

We’ve been renovating Sydney bathrooms since 2009, here’s how we make that decision easy.

You'll know exactly what you're paying before anything is touched

Your quote is written, fixed-price and fully itemised, so you can hold it against the others and see precisely what's been left out of theirs.

The price only moves if you change the scope.

No estimates that quietly grow once the walls are open.

One licensed team does the lot — you only ever deal with Rick

No chasing a plumber, a tiler, a waterproofer and an electrician who each blame the other.

Rick and Rob are licensed plumbers, drainers, gasfitters and bathroom renovators who are on the tools at your job, and they manage every other trade for you.

One number to call. One person responsible.

Built to last decades — and guaranteed in writing for 10 years

Waterproofing to AS/NZS 3500:2018, done by our own licensed people, not the cheapest subbie available that week.

Every renovation carries a 10-year workmanship guarantee written into your contract on top of the statutory cover you have under the NSW Home Building Act.

You stay living in your home the whole time

You're not moving out and you're not showering at the gym for a month. We seal the work area, protect your floors and furniture with proper foam matting — not $20 painter's sheets — and clean up at the end of every day.

Most bathrooms take 14 to 28 days, and you'll get a progress update each afternoon so you always know what's happening tomorrow.

What do 270+ Sydney homeowners say about renovating with Nu-Trend?

NSW Licence 217859C · HIA Home Owners Warranty · $20M Public Liability · Renovating Since 2009 · Licensed Plumbers & Drainers · 270+ Reviews

1. “Everyone warned us to strap in for a stressful experience” Everyone warned us when we decided to renovate to strap in for a stressful experience. We had the complete opposite! Even with a few unexpected issues with the building, it was the smoothest sailing project. I felt totally at ease in the hands of the Nu-Trend team.
Zoe Crocker

2. “After our waterproofing failed, we needed someone who could guarantee it” After a bathroom waterproofing failure, my wife and I found ourselves facing the unexpected task of renovating our ten-year-old bathroom. The experience left us cautious, determined to choose a renovator who could guarantee a job well done and prevent any future mishaps.
Michael Elms

3. “The peace of mind of knowing the job is done right” While Nu-Trend’s services may come at a slightly higher cost than some alternatives, the peace of mind that comes with knowing the job is done right makes the investment well worth it.
Michael Elms

4. “Other companies only sent their salesperson” Nu-Trend involved key trades — plumber, carpenter — during the quoting stage, whereas other companies who provided us quotes only sent their salesperson. That gave us confidence in the quoting process, and it continued until the job was completed.
Chris Harper

5. “Other companies declined to quote” Our renovation resulted in a complete new floor plan including removing a wall, new floor joists, ceiling and a skylight. Other companies declined to quote as it was more than a ‘standard’ renovation, but Nu-Trend were able to offer a complete solution for us.
Chris Harper

6. “It’s a scary thing committing a chunk of change” It’s a scary thing committing a chunk of change to a bathroom renovation but these guys make it as stress free as they possibly can. They respected my property by providing covers on all the walkways and tidied up every day.
Jules Davies

7. “I have trust that it will last with no issues” The price was more than I initially wanted to pay, however the bathroom is lovely and I have trust in the team that the end product is of high standards and will last with no issues.
Karina Griffiths

8. “I needed someone I could trust to manage it for us” We are time poor but also have very high expectations. I needed someone I could trust that would pay attention to the same details that I would notice and manage the project on our behalf, and this is what Rick delivered.
Jenny & Mathew

9. “I was worried taking on three bathrooms” I was worried taking on a 3 bathroom renovation in our home but I was lucky and found the boys from Nu-Trend. Having experienced pretty awful trades in the past, it was an utter breath of fresh air. My house was handed back pristine, clean and faultless.
Adrienne

10. “Integrity that isn’t all that common nowadays” Rick, Robbie and Chris are exceptional tradesmen. They are punctual, trustworthy and show a level of integrity that isn’t all that common nowadays.

What's included in a complete bathroom renovation?

From the first measure to the final silicone bead.

No subcontractor roulette, no gaps between trades, no one else to chase.

Rick and Rob the Directors of Nu Trend

Design and layout

We plan the room with you, where the shower goes, whether the bath stays, how to make a small space feel twice the size. Rick brings the designer's eye and trade pricing on fixtures, so you don't need to hire a designer separately.

Demolition and rubbish removal

Floors and furniture protected with proper foam matting, not $20 painter's sheets. The old bathroom comes out, the rubbish goes with us, and the site is left clean at the end of every day.

Subfloor preparation and repairs

This is where the surprises live. Rotted timber, failed substrates, movement — we find it before we tile over it, and it's quoted to you, not sprung on you halfway through.

Waterproofing to Australian Standards

Waterproofing is the step that decides whether your bathroom lasts twenty years or two. Ours is done in-house by our own licensed people to AS/NZS 3500:2018, with water stop angles installed where they belong and a certificate issued to you on completion.

Most bathroom failures we're called to inspect trace back to this one step being rushed, subcontracted to whoever was cheapest that week, or skipped where it can't be seen.

Tiling, plumbing and final fit-off

Tile layout set out properly so cuts fall where they should. A glazier measures your custom shower screen to the finished room instead of retrofitting one off the shelf. Then taps, vanity, lighting and finishes — and you sign off against the original scope.

Free, no obligation on site consultation. Your details go to Rick directly we are not a lead-generation site and we don't sell your information to anyone.

Why our bathroom renovation quotes are higher, and why that matters

Two quotes land in your inbox. Same line items, $8,000 apart so it’s natural to assume one of us is ripping you off.

That’s not what’s happening.

The cheaper quote is cheaper because of what isn’t in it.

A bathroom renovator’s licence and the HIA insurance that protects you cost money, bypass them and you’ve saved thousands in lodging and council fees before a single tile goes down.

A $600 shower screen off the shelf instead of a glazier measuring your space.

A $600 waterproofing job instead of the $1,800 one and the bloke quoting $1,800 gets called a rip-off.

Twenty-dollar painter’s sheets instead of proper foam floor protection. None of that shows on a quote template.

All of it shows up later.

Here’s what’s in our quote that isn’t in a cheaper one

Custom-made shower screens, measured to your room — not an off-the-shelf unit retrofitted to a space it was never made for. Included in every package, not an upgrade.

Water stop angles installed where they belong — the single detail that decides whether a leak stays in your bathroom or ends up in the ceiling below.

Waterproofing by our own licensed team to AS/NZS 3500:2018, with a certificate issued to you — never the cheapest subbie available that week.

Custom stainless steel drains instead of the standard plastic grate that stains and clogs.

Laser-marked plumbing set-out, so pipework lands exactly where the fixtures need it.

Market-leading waterproofing brands rather than generic product bought on price.

Proper property protection like foam matting, taped walkways, furniture covered, and photos of your home taken before we start so there's no argument about what was already there.

Tile layout set out before we start, so cuts fall where they should and nothing cracks from being glued and stressed the wrong way.

Free, no obligation.

If the budget doesn't stretch to doing it properly, Rick will tell you not to renovate.

Rick from Nu Trend providing instructions

His honest advice, given regularly to people who could have been customers: leave it alone.

Once you disrupt the old substrates and waterproofing, you’ve made a working bathroom worse and the shiny result won’t survive it.

Advice that costs him the job, offered anyway.

See it for yourself: a two-year-old bathroom that has to be gutted.

Rick walks former NRL player Braith Anasta through a bathroom that was sold as a quality build.

  • No water stop angle on a second storey.

  • A cracked tile from bad gluing.

  • A shower screen pulling away from the wall.

  • A silicone joint disconnected from floor to wall.

It’s less than two years old and it’s coming out.

Our 5-step bathroom renovation process

Fifteen years, hundreds of Sydney bathrooms, and the same five steps every time:

Create, Plan, Prepare, Build, Enjoy.

Nothing gets skipped and nothing gets sprung on you.

Step 1: Create — the on-site visit

Rick comes to your home for 30–45 minutes.

Budget, timings, access, sizing, layout ideas, and every question you've got.

Enough detail to price the job properly instead of guessing.

Step 2: Plan — your written fixed-price quote

Within 24 hours you get an itemised scope, an itemised schedule, payment stages and a fixed price.

This is the document you hold up against your other quotes and it's usually the moment the gaps in them become obvious.

Step 3: Prepare — before anyone picks up a tool

Paperwork, insurances, and every material, fixture, tile and tap confirmed and ordered before demolition day.

Most renovators skip this and end up waiting on deliveries mid-job, with your bathroom sitting stripped.

That's how three weeks becomes three months.

Step 4: Build — protect, strip, inspect, then rebuild

Your home gets protected. Once the room is stripped we do a full inspection for hidden plumbing or electrical problems, plus a free CCTV pipe inspection, and we show you anything we find with a quoted solution before proceeding.

Then we mark out the room and walk you through exactly where everything will sit before tiling starts.

Waterproofing, tiling, fit-off, and the custom shower screen measured last, to the finished room.

Step 5: Enjoy — clean, certify, hand over

A thorough professional clean, all warranty and waterproofing certificates issued and a final walkthrough with the team before it's yours.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

Most Sydney bathroom renovations take 14 to 28 days from demolition to handover, with the majority finished around three weeks.

The timeline depends on the size of the room, whether the layout is changing, and how much preparation the existing structure needs once it's stripped.

The time isn't spent laying tiles, it's spent waiting. Screed and render need to cure. Waterproofing needs multiple visits with drying time between coats: one for the floor, one or two for the walls, then grout, then silicone. Your custom shower screen can only be measured once the tiling is finished, then it has to be made.

Anyone promising a full bathroom in five days is describing new taps and paint, not a rebuilt and re-waterproofed room. You'll get a written timeline with your quote.

8 reasons Sydney homeowners choose Nu-Trend over a cheaper quote

1

You'll deal with Rick — the licensed director — from the first phone call to the final walkthrough

No salesperson on commission, no account manager, no call centre. The person who quotes your bathroom is the person on the tools building it, and it's written into your contract that you speak to Rick or Rob and nobody else.

2

You'll get a fixed price in writing within 24 hours, itemised line by line

You'll see exactly what you're paying for and what stage each payment falls at — 10% on approval, then staged through the build. The number only changes if you change the scope, or if we find something and quote it to you first.

3

You'll know what's behind your walls before we tile over it

Once the room is stripped we inspect the plumbing and electrical, run a CCTV camera through your pipes, and check the room is square. Anything we find comes to you with a quoted solution — not a phone call after the fact.

4

You'll have one licensed team instead of five separate tradies to chase

Rick and Rob are licensed plumbers, drainers, gasfitters and bathroom renovators. Everything else — electrical, carpentry, tiling, painting, glazing — is managed for you by people they've vetted over 15 years and who work to their standard.

5

You'll stay living in your home the whole time

Floors and furniture protected with foam matting and taped walkways, photos taken before we start, and the site cleaned at the end of every day. Most bathrooms are done in 14–28 days.

6

You'll get a bathroom built to last decades, not until the warranty runs out

Waterproofing to AS/NZS 3500:2018 with a certificate issued to you. Water stop angles where they belong. Custom stainless drains. Custom-made shower screens measured to your finished room — in every package, not as an upgrade.

7

You'll get the designer's eye without the designer's invoice

Layout, tile selection, fixture choice and how it all works together — sorted with you during the process. Plus if you want, Rick will supply your fixtures at trade cost. That's often thousands back in your pocket versus engaging a designer and buying retail.

8

You'll be told the truth, even when it costs us the job

If the budget won't stretch to doing it properly, Rick will tell you to leave the bathroom alone rather than disturb working waterproofing for a result that won't last. He's said it to plenty of people who could have been customers. It's why 270+ reviews read the way they do.

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Sydney?

Most renovators won’t put a number on a page. We will — with the honest caveats, so you can work out whether we’re in your range before anyone gives up an evening.

These are labour-only guide prices, including GST.

Fixtures, tiles and tapware are chosen by you and bought separately — and if you’d like, Rick will supply them at trade cost rather than what you’d pay retail.

2.5m × 2.5m$26,000 – $42,000
3.0m × 3.0m$28,000 – $48,000

Why there isn’t one fixed price for every bathroom

Because every home is different. What changes your number: the tiles you choose, how much preparation the existing room needs, tile height, the age of the property, site access, and whether you’re changing the layout.

Why a small bathroom isn’t much cheaper than a big one:

The labour is nearly identical. A smaller room still needs the same project management, the same demolition, the same curing time for screed and waterproofing, the same number of waterproofing visits — floor, walls, grout, silicone — and the same trades.

The difference between bathroom sizes is a few square metres of tile.

One of Sydney's trusted bathroom renovators since 2009

Rick and Rob the Directors of Nu Trend

Nu-Trend is an independent, family-run bathroom renovation company based in South Hurstville, working across all of Sydney. It’s run by directors Rick Karagiannis and Rob and the people who quote your bathroom are the same people who build it. There’s no sales team, no lead-generation middleman selling your details to three strangers, and no account manager between you and the tradesman.

Rick holds NSW Fair Trading contractor licence 217859C, covering plumbing, drainage, gasfitting and kitchen, bathroom and laundry renovation.

Nu-Trend carries $20 million in public liability insurance plus HIA Home Owners Warranty, and is a member of the Housing Industry Association and the Master Builders Association.

Every claim on this page is checkable — the licence can be verified directly with NSW Fair Trading.

Rick from Nu Trend confirming a scope of work

Since 2009 that approach has earned more than 270 written reviews across Google and Facebook, and repeat work from architects and interior designers who bring us in on their own clients’ homes.

The trade work is done to AS/NZS 3500:2018, the waterproofing is certified, and the partnership works because Rob is one of the best tradesmen you’ll find on the tools while Rick runs the project, the paperwork and the communication.

The big builders are on major developments. Nobody much cares about the mums and dads and the domestic side of bathrooms.

That’s exactly the gap Nu-Trend was built to fill.

Is Nu-Trend the right fit for your bathroom?

Raglan Street Mosman new ensuite bathroom

Your bathroom is 15+ years old and something has finally failed

A leak, a stain in the ceiling below, tiles lifting, or mould you can't scrub out. You've been ignoring it and now you're worried about what's underneath.

We strip it, inspect it, run a camera through the pipes and show you exactly what we find before we rebuild, so the new bathroom isn't sitting on the old one's problems.
Bathroom renovation with walk in shower in Sylvania vanity next to toilet

The kids have moved out and you finally want the space to be nice

You've lived with it for twenty years and put yourself last the whole time. Now you want a room that feels like a hotel rather than a chore.

Rick will help you plan the layout, choose tiles and fixtures that work together, and supply them at trade cost if you want, so it looks like the picture in your head, not a compromise.
Bathroom renovations in Hurstville white tiling

You've got three quotes and can't work out why they're so different

Same line items, thousands apart, and no one will explain it. Our quote is itemised so you can lay it beside the others and see precisely what's missing from theirs. That's usually the moment the decision makes itself.
Complete bathroom renovation in Haberfield

Your job is the one other companies wouldn't touch

An apartment with strata to satisfy. A second storey where a leak becomes your neighbour's problem. A tiny ensuite. An odd layout, a wall you want moved, a laundry you want combined. We've quoted plenty of rooms other companies declined because they weren't "standard."
Bathroom renovations Bondi Beach

You want it done once, properly, and you're prepared to pay for that

You've seen what the cheap version costs in the long run — maybe you've paid for it yourself. You're not looking for the lowest number, you're looking for the right one, and you'd rather spend an extra few thousand now than gut a two-year-old bathroom later.

Is Nu-Trend the right fit for your bathroom?

If you’re chasing the cheapest quote in Sydney, we won’t win your job and we won’t try to. If your budget is under $20,000, Rick will tell you honestly on the phone rather than take up your evening. If renovating properly is out of reach right now, his advice is to leave the bathroom alone — disturbing working waterproofing for a cheap rebuild will leave you worse off than you started

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Sydney? As a labour-only guide including GST, a small bathroom starts around $24,000 and a larger room can reach $48,000 depending on scope. Fixtures and tiles are chosen and bought by you — Rick can supply them at trade cost if you’d like. Your quote is fixed and itemised, so the number you see is the number you pay unless you change the scope.

Why is your quote higher than the other two I’ve got? Because of what’s in it. A renovator’s licence and HIA insurance cost thousands in lodging and council fees before a tile goes down — bypass them and the quote drops. Same with a $600 off-the-shelf shower screen instead of a glazier measuring your room, or $600 waterproofing instead of doing it properly. None of that shows on a quote template. All of it shows up later. Our itemised scope is designed to be held up against the others so you can see the difference for yourself.

How long does a bathroom renovation take? Most take 14 to 28 days from demolition to handover, with the majority finished around 21. Anyone promising a full renovation in five days is describing new taps and paint, not a rebuilt and re-waterproofed room. You’ll get a written timeline with your quote.

Can we still live in the house while you’re working? Yes — nearly all our clients do. We protect floors and furniture with foam matting and taped walkways, take photos before we start, and clean the site at the end of every day. There will be dust and there will be tools in your home, but you won’t be moving out.

Do you renovate apartments, units and townhouses? Yes. We’ve done a lot of apartment and strata work, including second-storey bathrooms where a leak becomes the neighbour’s problem. Shared walls, shared services and strata approvals are all part of the job — tell Rick what you’re working with and he’ll give you a straight answer.

What happens if you find something unexpected once the bathroom is stripped? We stop and show you. After demolition we inspect the plumbing and electrical, run a CCTV camera through your pipes and check the room is square. Anything we find comes to you with a quoted solution before we proceed — never a surprise on the final invoice.

Are you licensed and insured? Yes. NSW Fair Trading contractor licence 217859C covering plumbing, drainage, gasfitting and bathroom renovation, $20 million public liability, and HIA Home Owners Warranty. We’re members of the HIA and the Master Builders Association, and you can verify the licence directly with NSW Fair Trading.

What if I don’t know what I want yet? That’s most people. Rick will talk through layout, tile selection and fixtures during the consultation and give you the designer’s perspective without you needing to hire one. You don’t need to have anything decided before you book.

Will a salesperson turn up at my house? No. You’ll meet Rick, and sometimes Rob. They’re the directors, they’re licensed, and they’re the ones who’ll build your bathroom. It’s written into our contract that you deal directly with them for the whole project.
