We plan the room with you, where the shower goes, whether the bath stays, how to make a small space feel twice the size. Rick brings the designer's eye and trade pricing on fixtures, so you don't need to hire a designer separately.
Demolition and rubbish removal
Floors and furniture protected with proper foam matting, not $20 painter's sheets. The old bathroom comes out, the rubbish goes with us, and the site is left clean at the end of every day.
Subfloor preparation and repairs
This is where the surprises live. Rotted timber, failed substrates, movement — we find it before we tile over it, and it's quoted to you, not sprung on you halfway through.
Waterproofing to Australian Standards
Waterproofing is the step that decides whether your bathroom lasts twenty years or two. Ours is done in-house by our own licensed people to AS/NZS 3500:2018, with water stop angles installed where they belong and a certificate issued to you on completion.
Most bathroom failures we're called to inspect trace back to this one step being rushed, subcontracted to whoever was cheapest that week, or skipped where it can't be seen.
Tiling, plumbing and final fit-off
Tile layout set out properly so cuts fall where they should. A glazier measures your custom shower screen to the finished room instead of retrofitting one off the shelf. Then taps, vanity, lighting and finishes — and you sign off against the original scope.

Paperwork, insurances, and every material, fixture, tile and tap confirmed and ordered before demolition day.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?
Most Sydney bathroom renovations take 14 to 28 days from demolition to handover, with the majority finished around three weeks.
The timeline depends on the size of the room, whether the layout is changing, and how much preparation the existing structure needs once it's stripped.
The time isn't spent laying tiles, it's spent waiting. Screed and render need to cure. Waterproofing needs multiple visits with drying time between coats: one for the floor, one or two for the walls, then grout, then silicone. Your custom shower screen can only be measured once the tiling is finished, then it has to be made.

Why a small bathroom isn’t much cheaper than a big one:
The labour is nearly identical. A smaller room still needs the same project management, the same demolition, the same curing time for screed and waterproofing, the same number of waterproofing visits — floor, walls, grout, silicone — and the same trades.

As a labour-only guide including GST, a small bathroom starts around $24,000 and a larger room can reach $48,000 depending on scope. Fixtures and tiles are chosen and bought by you — Rick can supply them at trade cost if you’d like. Your quote is fixed and itemised, so the number you see is the number you pay unless you change the scope.
Why is your quote higher than the other two I’ve got?
Because of what’s in it. A renovator’s licence and HIA insurance cost thousands in lodging and council fees before a tile goes down — bypass them and the quote drops. Same with a $600 off-the-shelf shower screen instead of a glazier measuring your room, or $600 waterproofing instead of doing it properly. None of that shows on a quote template. Can we still live in the house while you’re working?

Do you renovate apartments, units and townhouses?
Yes. We’ve done a lot of apartment and strata work, including second-storey bathrooms where a leak becomes the neighbour’s problem. Shared walls, shared services and strata approvals are all part of the job — tell Rick what you’re working with and he’ll give you a straight answer.

Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. NSW Fair Trading contractor licence 217859C covering plumbing, drainage, gasfitting and bathroom renovation, $20 million public liability, and HIA Home Owners Warranty. We’re members of the HIA and the Master Builders Association, and you can verify the licence directly with NSW Fair Trading.
What if I don’t know what I want yet?
That’s most people. Rick will talk through layout, tile selection and fixtures during the consultation and give you the designer’s perspective without you needing to hire one. You don’t need to have anything decided before you book.
Will a salesperson turn up at my house?
No. You’ll meet Rick, and sometimes Rob. They’re the directors, they’re licensed, and they’re the ones who’ll build your bathroom. It’s written into our contract that you deal directly with them for the whole project.
Where do I shower while my bathroom is being renovated?
Most clients use a second bathroom, an ensuite or a laundry basin for the two to four weeks of the build. If yours is the only bathroom in the house, tell Rick at the consultation — we can sequence the work so the toilet is reconnected as early as possible, and plenty of clients arrange a shower at a family member’s place, a gym or a neighbour’s for the tiling and waterproofing window. It’s a shorter stretch than most people expect.
Do I need council approval to renovate a bathroom in NSW?
A like-for-like bathroom renovation generally doesn’t need council approval, as it’s usually exempt development. Approval can be needed if you’re altering the building structure, moving external walls, or adding a window or skylight. Strata properties need owners corporation approval regardless. We’ll tell you exactly what’s required for your job at the consultation and handle the paperwork.
Can you renovate a bathroom and laundry at the same time?
Yes, and it’s often the cheaper way to do it. The trades, the site setup and the project management are already in place, so combining the two costs less than running them as separate jobs months apart. We also convert laundries into bathrooms and combine rooms to make a larger space.
Do you supply the tiles, vanity and tapware, or do I buy them?
Either way works. Most clients choose their own fixtures and tiles, and we’ll guide the selection so everything works together. If you’d prefer, Rick will supply them at trade cost through our accounts with Reece and other suppliers, which is usually well below retail.
