Bathroom renovation scope of work
Nu Trend was contracted as the bathroom renovations company to build this new bathroom in a home located in Loftus, Sydney. As you probably already know, renovating a bathroom is a significant undertaking, and for the owner of this stunning Loftus home, Nu Trend provided a comprehensive bathroom renovating service from concept to completion.
The build of their new ensuite creates a luxurious, modern Hamptons-inspired retreat that showcases our company’s meticulous approach to bathroom renovation.
Design.
The renovation process began with the crucial design phase. Nu Trend collaborated closely with the homeowner to bring their vision to life, incorporating their desire for a sophisticated aesthetic.
This involved selecting a striking contrasting colour palette of dark grey and white/light grey, harmoniously accented with opulent gold/brass fixtures. The choice of artisan patterned floor tiles was a key design decision, introducing a distinctive visual element that complements the clean lines of the subway-style wall tiles.
The lower half of the walls features dark grey subway tiles laid in a staggered pattern, while the upper half boasts lighter, vertically stacked tiles, creating a sense of height and sophistication. A thin, elegant gold/brass trim was incorporated as a divider, adding a subtle touch of luxury.
The inclusion of a Hamptons-inspired dark grey vanity with a white countertop basin and sleek brass hardware further solidified the desired aesthetic.
Demolition
Once the design was finalised, Nu Trend proceeded with the demolition of the old bathroom. This essential first step ensures a clean slate for the new design, expertly removing all existing fixtures, tiles, and any unnecessary structures. Following demolition, the team meticulously prepared the walls and flooring. This involved ensuring all surfaces were level, structurally sound, and ready for the subsequent stages of the renovation.
Waterproofing
A critical phase in any bathroom renovation is waterproofing. Nu Trend’s licensed and experienced team applied robust waterproofing layers to Australian standards, protecting the sub-structure from moisture and ensuring the longevity of the new bathroom. This is a non-negotiable step that underscores the quality and integrity of Nu Trend’s work.
Tiling
With the waterproofing complete, the tiling commenced. This involved the precise installation of the dark grey and white subway tiles on the walls, including the intricate vertical lay on the upper sections and the distinctive gold/brass trim. The artistic patterned floor tiles were then expertly laid, transforming the floor into a captivating focal point.
Installation
Nu Trend completed the build with the installation of all new fixtures and fittings. This encompassed the elegant wall-mounted gold/brass tap ware at the basin, the comprehensive gold/brass twin shower system, and matching gold/brass towel rings and toilet roll holders.
The modern, white toilet was seamlessly installed, and the clear glass shower screen was fitted, maintaining an open and spacious feel. A mirrored shaving cabinet, likely with coordinating gold/brass accents, was also installed, providing both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Through each stage, from initial design consultation to the final installation of every detail, Nu Trend ensured a high-quality, professional, and efficient renovation. The result is a newly renovated ensuite in Loftus that is not only visually stunning but also highly functional, perfectly reflecting the homeowner’s sophisticated taste and the unique modern Hamptons-inspired style.

The interior design of this bathroom renovation included;
- Modern Hamptons contemporary style: While there’s a strong Hamptons influence (especially suggested by the vanity and the overall clean lines), the use of bold patterned floor tiles and the darker grey lower wall tiles gives it a contemporary edge. It’s not a strictly traditional Hamptons look but rather a refreshed, modern interpretation.
- Contrasting colours: The primary colour scheme is a striking contrast between dark grey (almost black) and white/light grey, softened and enriched by prominent gold/brass accents.
- Luxurious finishes: The choice of finishes, particularly the gold fixtures and the detailed floor tiles, elevates the space, giving it a sense of luxury and refinement.
- Clean lines with little details: The wall tiling features clean, stacked lines, while the floor introduces intricate patterns, creating a balance between simplicity and visual interest.
Inclusions and Details:
Wall Tiling:
- Two-Tone Scheme: The walls feature a distinct two-tone tiling approach. The lower half of the walls, including within the shower recess, is clad in a dark grey subway-style tile, laid in a staggered brick pattern.
- Upper Half: The upper half of the walls is tiled with a lighter, possibly white or very light grey, subway-style tile, laid vertically, creating a sense of height.
- Gold/Brass Trim: A thin gold or brass trim separates the dark grey and light-coloured wall tiles, adding a subtle yet impactful luxurious detail.
Floor Tiling: Artisan Patterned Tiles: The most distinctive feature of the floor is the intricate patterned tiles. These are likely ceramic or porcelain, featuring a detailed, almost Victorian-inspired or Moroccan-influenced black, white, and grey design. This pattern adds significant character and a focal point to the bathroom.
Vanity: The vanity is a prominent feature, appearing to be a floating or wall-mounted dark grey/black cabinet with a clean, white countertop. Its design, with panelled drawers and brass hardware, strongly suggests a Hamptons or classic furniture influence.
Countertop Basin: A round, white countertop basin sits elegantly on the vanity, reinforcing the clean and modern look.
Brass Hardware: The vanity features sleek, horizontal brass handles on its drawers, matching other gold/brass elements in the room.
Fixtures and Fittings (Gold/Brass Accents):
- Wall-Mounted tap ware: The basin features sophisticated wall-mounted gold/brass tap ware.
- Shower: The shower boasts a prominent gold/brass twin shower system, likely including a rain shower head and a handheld shower on a rail.
- Towel ring: A gold/brass towel ring is mounted next to the vanity, complementing the other fixtures.
- Toilet roll holder: A matching gold/brass toilet roll holder is visible near the toilet.
- Mirror cabinet: Above the vanity, there’s a mirrored shaving cabinet, likely with a gold/brass frame or accents, providing both reflection and storage.
- Toilet: A modern, back-to-wall or close-coupled toilet with clean lines, in white, is integrated seamlessly into the space.
- Shower screen: A clear glass shower screen separates the shower area, maintaining an open and spacious feel for the large walk in shower.
Designing a bathroom yourself
Yes, you can design a bathroom on your own, you don’t need to use an interior designer, architect or builder. There are lots of online bathroom design tools that you can use which can help you create a layout, colour style and layout.
We can use those ideas to then mark everything out in the room once it has been demolished and ensure everything can be placed where you want it to be. In fact it is a critical step that we take to ensure taps are at the right height, there is plenty of space to walk around easily and that everything complies with the National Building Code and Australian Standards.

Maintaining quality and communication
One of the key elements we maintained throughout the renovation was stringent quality control. Whether during demolition, rendering, Gyprock, or sanding phases that are typically messy and disruptive—we ensured that either myself or my business partner, Robbie, was on site to supervise. Our team took care to clean up regularly, vacuum dust, and keep the client informed of when tradespeople would be on site. This allowed the homeowner to better coordinate their daily routines and minimised disruption.
While no renovation is entirely without its challenges, we worked diligently to ensure this project progressed as smoothly as possible. The end result met our high standards and, more importantly, fulfilled the client’s vision. The tile layout, choice of finishes, and overall construction quality were completed to a standard we are proud to showcase.
